Weekend ‘Galaxy’ Insight –Beyond Pluto? Discovery of an Unseen 9th Planet (VIDEO)

A little something to take our minds off of the crummy weather outside.

It’d be great if the New Horizons probe sent to observe Pluto could be re – directed to head towards this ” new ” planet, but it is / was moving at an unusually high speed compared to past Earth probes, & I guess reprogramming the craft to alter its course would be difficult. Still, a future unmanned mission there would be a real feat. As chilly as it is now to a lot of us, I’m sure this new 9th world would make wintertime Earth look like Tahiti, Bora Bora or Arizona in the height of summer.

The neat thing is that there are extremeophiles – Flora & fauna that can exist anywhere on Earth, adapt & even THRIVE – in even the most inhospitable of environments = The geothermal vents undersea, deserts like the Atacama & the Gobi, Antarctica, etc.

Bacteria were even found on a piece of a Soviet probe retrieved from the near – vacuum of the Moon.

So – life of SOME kind, even if it’s unicellular or similar to a lichen, could exist on this wanderer on the fringe of the solar system.life-on-other-planets-neil-degrasse-tyson <—– Dreams of going ice – fishing on the moon of Jupiter, Europa, so he says. 🙂

‘The Habitat of Space-Faring Civilizations?’ –Ancient Star Clusters Orbiting the Milky Way (Week’s Most Popular)

I wonder ( If those hypothetical civilizations are out there ) just how advanced they would be ? Could be observing us now ? Weighing us in the balances & finding us wanting ? Would they intervene in our affairs if we show we’re not interested in blowing ourselves up, poisoning this world, stripping our world bare of resources, then moving on to other planets ? Part of me would be curious to find out, part of me just likes to ponder this mystery. This universe seems too grand & large for all known life forms to be concentrated on 1 small planet orbiting a medium – size class GO2 star in arm of this sized galaxy.

Maybe we’ll find out in 2, 3 centuries. Maybe in several thousand years. Maybe a few decades. Or never.life-on-other-planets-neil-degrasse-tyson <—- Invoking Neil deGrasse Tyson yet again.

‘Nixing 100 Billion Galaxies’ –Bayesian Reasoning Dismisses Existence of Alien Life (Today’s Most Popular)

I don’t think we’re alone in the universe. There may be civilizations out in interstellar space, even intergalactic space, that simply haven’t ventured beyond the confines of their atmosphere or discovered the principles of aerodynamics that enable a plane or a rocket to fly yet. Maybe they’re just now entering their equivalent of our Industrial Age & learning how to harness the power of running water or steam to generate energy. Just because a civilization may be located on another world DOES NOT mean that they have interstellar flight, computers, robots, space probes or even satellites whose energy signatures would show up on a radio – telescope.

Maybe they’re waiting for us to develop, maybe we should be wondering if they’ve developed out in the near – vacuum radiation – soaked void of interstellar / intergalactic space.Nebulae Spiraling Outward
