The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I have seen this movie roughly 4 times. Benjamin is certainly ( understatement alert ! ) interesting. The reverse of Robin Williams title character in the movie ” Jack “, it is like he has reverse progeria with maybe some sprinkles of ” Peter Pan – ism “. All things considered, as much as I might like to relive my youth, I really DON’T think I’d want to do so in a fashion like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

(Paramount) Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Taraji P. Henson, Julia Ormond, Tilda Swinton, Jason Flemyng, Elias Koteas, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Elle Fanning. Directed by David Fincher

One of the constants of our lives is time. It follows a preset course in our perception; we are born, we grow up, we grow old, we die. There is a certain comfort in knowing how that progression will go. However, what if time wasn’t a constant for us all?

Benjamin Button (Pitt), like a modern-day Merlin, doesn’t age; he youthens. He was born an old man in turn of the century New Orleans; his father Thomas (Flemyng), overwhelmed by the death of his wife in childbirth and the double whammy of a peculiar child to boot, leaves him at a home for the aged, to be cared for by Queenie (Henson), a woman with a gigantic heart.

From there on we watch the events of…

Discovering Ancient Egypt

Imhotep’s Pyramid, the Prototype.

4,500 years old & designed by Djoser’s vizier Imhotep.

In my mind, he’s the 1st genius. Not only did he design the 1st pyramid, still standing, a testimony to genius, BUT –

He began the art of mummification, the vital part of sending the soul of Pharaoh & everyday Egyptian on the journey to the ” Underworld ” & from studying internal organs, he gained important medical knowledge, which was preserved in at least 1 papyrus.

When the Greeks & Romans entered Egypt during / after the Ptolemaic period, Imhotep’s reputation supposedly preceded him & they venerated him as a god.

Vizier, architect, god – Quite a legacy. Unfortunately, his mummified remains have not been discovered or identified with certainty. But his reputation stands.

Nefertiti’s Final Resting Place Continues to Polarize, Captivate – D-brief

Nefertiti could be interred in the deserted ruins of Tell el – Amarna, or have been included in the cache of ancient Egyptian royalty & noble mummies taken from the Valley of the Kings / Queens, or her remains could’ve had the worst possible fate for ancient Egyptian befall them – Destruction at the hands of those whom the monotheistic Pharaoh Akhenaten & his followers in the religion of the Aten ( Sun God, another aspect of Ra / Amun Ra ) fell out of favor with. I don’t have access to more than my imagination, but I would suspect that the Chief Wife ( There was no title such as ” Queen ” in Egyptian. ) of Akhenaten’s mummy was destroyed or perhaps because of the before – mentioned disfavor, she was unmummified & just left to the unforgiving desert. And the entire 18th dynasty section of the the King’s List was essentially erased at the sacred city of Abydos ( Abju / Abjdu ) effectively removing them from memory. That was the 2nd worst fate that could befall a Pharaonic Egyptian. Many carvings depicting Akhenaten & / or Nefertiti were heavily defaced, & their cartouches ( hieroglyphs enclosed in a protective oval ) erased by chisels.

Perhaps we’ll never know. The past of 3,000 years + ago is another world. Nefertiti – ” The Beautiful One Has Come ”

Is Nefertiti hidden in a chamber behind a wall in King Tutankhamen’s tomb? Is there a chamber? An intense debate heats up.

From Shredded C-Notes to Corn: Weird Materials Make Their Way into Cars

I don’t drive, for reasons that I’ve stated before here, but things of an automotive nature  DO interest me in a major way – I knew about 3D ” printed ” components for cars, but the recycled elements I had no idea about. Did you know that there are SHREDDED $ 100 bills in your car ? Platinum ( more valuable than GOLD ! ) in your spark plugs ? & yes, probably gold as well. This may not be interesting to some people, BUT, since I have a penchant for munching on obscure, arcane pieces of knowledge, it caught my attention, naturally. 🙂 If we could recycle more materials belonging to defunct cars & other devices, it means less material in the waste stream & landfills – & the Earth is several percentage points cleaner.

Hence, I feel a sense of obligation to play micro – Prometheus ( whatever ) & share this knowledge with you. I think that you MAY just find it interesting !

There may be real cash in your next car, more than just your investment.

$101 million Noah’s Ark rises in Kentucky — Jesus-riding dinosaurs and all

Now I don’t know if there was a literal ” Flood ” a few millennia ago. Most cultures have legends of ” FLOODS ” ( China, Egypt, Babylon / Mesopotamia, India, etc. ) but those cultures were located beside rivers, & if you have rivers, you’re going to have flooding. Inundations. Entire cities submerged under water, mud, muck, earth. The stuff of myth & legends. But Young Earth Creationists believe it as FACT, a global inundation. They also believe that Earth is only 6,000 years old & no MORE.

That would probably mean that the pyramid designed by the Egyptian Imhotep would’ve been hovering in space or that the 6,000 Young Earth school of Creationism is a WHOPPING big fallacy. Or perhaps Imhotep was a highly – intelligent Nile – dwelling crocodile ?

This entire Noah’s Ark thing is just designed to appeal to the people who already believe in the Flood account & the YEC school of thought. As long as they don’t go pushing their ” school of thought ” down my throat, live & let live…..osiris_amidst_the_poinsettas_photo_0479_by_theobsessivebrowser-d89xjsl

Pompeii – Restoring it & Recording it.

79 A.D. would have been a very BAD time to be in Pompeii, Herculaneum or ANYWHERE in the vicinity of Mt. Vesuvius.

Roughly 2 millennia later, the city of Pompeii is still in peril – from the footsteps of tourists, & even the CO2 they exhale, not to mention auto emissions from nearby towns & other elements of 21st century life.

But, as it happens, Kickstarter is beginning a campaign to fund an inter – disciplinary team for the restoration & conservation of the historical town. & 1 team is going to use digital imagery taken by remote – controlled drone & from the ground to virtually restore Pompeii.

With the unintended damage wrought by tourist traffic & other factors, maybe a ” virtual ” tour will be the best way to see the strange, eerie wonders of Pompeii, Herculaneum ( Ercalano ) or for that matter, the Valley of the Kings, Petra, the Giza Plateau & other sites from the ancient world.

The ancient world still has some things to teach us, even if we have to learn virtually.

I hope BOTH links work.
